These are the kinds of places that hold great historical or cultural value and are highly appreciated by the people of Seville.
Alameda de Hércules
An absolute “must-to-experience” if you visit Seville. The Alameda de Hércules owes its name to the Roman columns representing Hercules and Julius Caesar. Originally a marshland, it was redeveloped in the 16th century, becoming Europe’s first public garden. Today, it’s a favorite spot among Sevillians for bar-hopping.

12th-century Almohad walls
Only this kilometer of Muslim city walls remains standing from when they were built in the 12th century. The destruction of the rest of the walls and all their gates was a decision made by the local government to “modernize” the city in the 19th century. Thanks to complaints from some scholars, only this section was allowed to be preserved.

Cabildo Square
One of Seville’s hidden gems. This site was once part of the Colegio de San Miguel, administered by the Cathedral. After the school closed, the space served various purposes until it became this haven of peace right in the heart of the historic center. Original 12th-century wall and 20th-century frescoes

Postigo of Oil
A “postigo” is a secondary gate in the city wall through which goods are typically brought in after paying the corresponding tax. The “postigo del aceite” (or postigo of oil) is the only one still standing in Seville, located next to the shipyards.

Casa de la Moneda (Mint)
The facade of the old mint (where coins were struck) is an example of 18th-century art, although it was founded and built in the Middle Ages. Upon crossing the threshold, you enter one of the city’s most hidden places, where a plaque marks the site of the former mint.

Roman Columns on Mármoles Street
It is still a matter of debate whether these three columns were part of a temple or another structure. Originally, there were six columns, two of which are located on the Alameda de Hércules. Not many people know about this spot, where you can see the ground level from Roman times.

1929 Expo Pavilions
The 1929 Ibero-American Exposition gave us such beautiful buildings as the Plaza de España, but many more pavilions—of spectacular beauty—still stand today, showcasing the art of their respective countries. Argentina, Morocco, Mexico, and Peru are just a few examples.

The Queen’s sewing place
Located next to María Luisa Park, this unique building is more famous for its legend than for its actual history. Although it was merely a small guardhouse for the park keeper, legend has it that Queen María de las Mercedes used to sew while sunbathing here as she waited for visits from her fiancé, Alfonso XII. One of the most beautiful buildings in Seville.

Atarazanas (Shipyard)
They were built by Alfonso X to house the galleys, since Seville is a port city on the Atlantic coast. Later, they were converted into warehouses and businesses for trade with the Americas. Only 7 of the original 17 huge warehouses remain, and they are currently undergoing restoration. Scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed there.
