Seville has the largest historic center in Spain. So how do you get around to see it all? Here’s how:

On foot: the best way to explore city centre

Since Seville is a flat city with hardly any hills and has a pleasant climate, walking is undoubtedly the best way to explore it. That way, you can discover the narrow streets of the city center and wander into its charming little squares. Plus, most of the historic center is pedestrian-only, so getting around on foot is very comfortable and safe.

""

Tip: Plan your visit so that you explore the city by neighborhood (downtown, Santa Cruz, Triana…). If the areas you want to visit are far apart, you can always take public transportation.

By bike

Seville is one of the most “bike-friendly” cities in Spain. It has more than 180 km of bike lanes and a public bike-sharing system called Sevici. You can use it for short trips and get around without worrying about traffic or parking. There are also many private bike rental companies, some of which offer guided tours.

""

Tip: Keep in mind that cycling through the historic center is limited, since the bike lane does not extend all the way into the historic center. The streets are narrow and cobblestone, and in some areas, cycling is not permitted at certain times of the day.

By public transportation: buses, subway, and tram

TUSSAM is the municipal transportation company, which operates an extensive bus network and a tram (Metrocentro) that connects key locations throughout the city.

Tip: If you plan to use public transportation, I recommend downloading their app right away, where you can check stops, routes, and arrival times.

Buses

In general, public transportation in Seville is quite good, with frequent service and a large fleet of buses. However, buses do not run through the pedestrian zone in the historic center, with one exception: the C5. Therefore, it’s best to use them to travel between distant areas outside the Old Town, such as from La Macarena to Triana or to María Luisa Park.

""

Subway and tram (metrocentro)

Actually, the metro only has one line, and if you’re staying in the city center, these two forms of transportation won’t be very useful, since they currently don’t run through the Old Town (only one tram stop goes as far as City Hall). However, they’re widely used by Sevillians, since many don’t live or work in the historic center.

That said, if you’re going to see a football game at the Sevilla F.C. stadium, you can get there by metro or tram.

""

What about the sightseeing bus?

Honestly, I don’t recommend it, since there are very few sights to see from the bus because it can’t drive through the old town. However, if you’re traveling with older people for whom walking a lot isn’t an option, it can be useful for getting a general idea of Seville.

""

By car or motorcycle: only if necessary

Driving through Seville’s historic center isn’t the best idea: many streets are narrow, there are access restrictions, and parking can be difficult. If you arrive in your own vehicle, it’s best to leave it in a parking garage and then get around by public transportation or on foot.

You can also opt for shared electric scooters (such as Acciona or Cooltra), which are available through mobile apps and are convenient for short trips.

""

Taxis and Ride-Hailing Services

Official taxis are easily recognizable (white with a yellow stripe), and you can hail them on the street, at taxi stands, or through apps. Some fares, such as those from the airport to downtown or during special periods, are fixed.

However, ride-hailing services like Uber, Bolt, and Cabify also operate in Seville; they work well and generally have similar rates.

""

I hope these tips come in handy during your visit to Seville. Have a wonderful stay!
