Art abounds in Seville, and it is true that many of the paintings and sculptures are housed in their respective churches. But it is also true that the city\u2019s museums are living testaments to Seville\u2019s history, preserving many priceless works of art.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among them, you\u2019ll find works by great masters such as Vel\u00e1zquez and Murillo, as well as genre painters like Gonzalo Bilbao; contemporary art in a medieval monastery; ruins of houses from the Roman Empire; the former castle of the Spanish Inquisition; a center where you can explore traditional Triana pottery; and an entire museum dedicated to Seville\u2019s archaeological remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fine Arts Museum<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Seville\u2019s premier museum. The building itself is a monument: the former Convent of La Merced. Here you\u2019ll find works by the great masters\u2014Murillo, Zurbar\u00e1n, Vald\u00e9s Leal\u2014as well as a large collection of sculptures by artists such as Luisa Rold\u00e1n and Pietro Torrigiano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antiquarium<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Right beneath Las Setas is this museum, which preserves the remains of the Muslim and Roman cities. The mosaics from the 1st and 2nd centuries that were found here are of exceptional quality and have been preserved almost in their entirety. The entire tour takes place on a glass walkway so you don\u2019t miss a single detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Triana Ceramics Center<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

A former traditional ceramics factory converted into a museum. You\u2019ll discover the manufacturing process and its connection to the neighborhood, while viewing a collection featuring pieces dating from the 11th to the 20th century. A modern space where you can learn about this noble and ancient craft of the neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

The most impressive thing about this museum is its location: the Cartuja Monastery. The building itself is historic, having served as a burial place for important figures and as the site of the famous pottery factory. All of this, combined with collections of contemporary art, makes it a unique space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archaeological Museum<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

A museum where you can explore the history of Seville, from prehistory to the modern era. Here you\u2019ll find the Carambolo Treasure, Roman sculptures and mosaics, Al-Andalus coins, Visigothic artifacts, and more. Plus, the building itself is spectacular and located within Mar\u00eda Luisa Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saint Jorge Castle<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

The former castle of the Inquisition. Only its ruins remain, as it was demolished to make way for the current Triana Market. However, it\u2019s worth a visit, as it has been converted into an interpretive center dedicated to the Tribunal of the Inquisition and its history in Seville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
